AMNH's 80th Anniversary Year

Around the Museum in 80 Years!

For those who may not be aware, 2010 marks the 80th anniversary of Anniston Museum of Natural History. We would never allow such a significant milestone to pass unnoticed. To celebrate 80 amazing years of education and cultural enrichment, the Museum has planned some fun events for visitors, members and the community at large. Look for these very special “80” opportunities for 2010:

“Thanks for the Memories”
—We want to celebrate 80 years with you and your memories of the Museum. Create an object or piece of art, write a poem or a letter, draw a picture, write a short note on a post card, a funny story, bring in a piece of historic memorabilia or a photo of yourself or group at the Museum. “80 Years Young”
—If you are or will turn 80 years old in 2010, then your admission to the Museum is free all year with your valid ID/proof of age. Free admission for 80 year-olds begins January 19, 2010.

“80 Days of Summer”
— Beginning June 1st and continuing through August 19th, if you were born in the year 1980 (must present valid ID with proof of birth year), you’ll get free admission with another visitor’s paid admission. Paying visitor may be of any age, 4 and over!

“80 Years, 80 Objects”
— Beginning this spring, see a special selection of unique and interesting objects from our 80 year history on display in the Museum’s Exhibit Halls.

“80th Birthday Party Celebration”
— Our birthday will be observed in style in a festive September celebration! As a gesture of appreciation for your many years of support, we welcome everyone to visit us for free on our special day.

We look forward to sharing our 80th year with you, and hope you will enjoy all the special events and opportunities the Museum staff has planned. There will be fun, frivolity, and many family-friendly activities throughout 2010. And best of all, we’re just getting started: Just wait and see what the Museum has in store in our next 80 years!
