Anniston Museum of
Natural History
Policy on Service
of Alcohol
The Anniston
Museum Board has established the following policy concerning the
service of alcohol beverages on Museum property:
-
No alcohol will
be sold on Museum premises. The Museum is not licensed to
sell alcohol.
-
The Museum will
strictly adhere to all laws of the State of Alabama and
notice of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. Alcohol
will not be served to minors. Bartenders must check birth
dates or identification cards when age is in question.
-
Notice will be prominently
posted at all bars as follows:
“The Anniston
Museum of Natural History will not serve alcoholic beverages
to minors or to any person who appears to be (1)
intoxicated, (2) mentally impaired by intoxication, or (3)
who could become mentally impaired by the service of alcohol
to that person. The Museum reserves the sole right to
determine to whom service will be made.”
-
A security officer licensed to
do business within the City of Anniston must be retained
during all Museum or non-Museum functions at which alcohol
is served. Two such officers will be required when 41 or
more persons are present for the function. Renting
organizations will be responsible for scheduling and payment
of security officers. This will not be arranged by the
Museum.
-
Security officer(s) must be
present prior to serving alcoholic beverages of any kind.
No alcoholic beverages may be consumed in the Museum
facility or on the surrounding grounds unless the security
officer(s) is present. All alcoholic beverages will be
removed from the premises or locked inside the Museum
building at the end of each function.
-
The Anniston Museum Board will
not tolerate excessive alcohol consumption on Museum
property.
-
No employee, volunteer, or
hired bartender will serve or participate in the serving of
any intoxicated or inebriated person or anyone who appears
to be intoxicated, inebriated, or “drunk”.
-
It is understood that the
Museum Board will fully support staff decisions regarding
intoxication.
-
When a person has been refused
service, the Museum Staff and/or host should take all steps
possible to discourage the intoxicated person from driving.
Some suggestions are:
Offer to drive
the individual home.
Offer to call a taxi for the individual.
Talk to friends of the intoxicated person and get their
assurance that they will not let the individual drive.
Refer to security officers on duty.
