your seat for the new Home School Academy. The Academy
will meet the last Thursday in each month from
January–May from
10am–noon. Each session’s
topic will be taught by highly skilled educator,
curator, biologist or historian in one of the two
Museums. Registration is required for each session. You
may reserve your spot for all five classes and receive a
discount. Receive an additional discount by becoming an
Anniston Museum Member. Each class is limited to 25
students but must have a minimum of 10 participants to
be presented. Classes will use the resources of each
Museum to the fullest. Students will get the opportunity
to visit behind-the scenes, explore the Museum’s
collection, see live animals up close and personal and
enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor activities during
these sessions. This Academy is specifically designed to
reach older students from grades 5th–12th. The January
and April sessions at Berman Museum are also open to
students as young as 3rd grade. $20/participant/$15
member per class, or register for all five.

Session: Alabama Wildlife

Homeschoolers, join Anniston Museum Naturalist Stephen
Faughn as he discusses Alabama Wildlife in detail.
Topics will include history of fauna in Alabama,
mimicry, defense mechanisms, and predator/prey
relationships. There will be opportunities to go behind
the scenes in the Live Animal Building, Attack and
Defense Exhibit Hall, and on the Bird of Prey Trail
where students will get hands-on experience with various
species of Alabama wildlife. Appropriate for students in
5th–12th grades.

Session: Making of America–Life in Colonial America

Join
Collections Manager Robert Lindley for a fun and
educational look back at America’s Colonial period.
Taste peppermint tea and learn why tea and sugar were so
valuable to early colonists. See lots of hands-on items
, try on a Revolutionary War uniform, visit behind the
scenes in the Museum’s collection storage area, and get
a guided tour of The Working White House. This session
is appropriate for students in 3rd–12th grades.
Final
Session: Botany

Homeschoolers, join Dan Spaulding, Anniston Museum’s
Curator of Collections, for an informative session about
the basics of botanical science. Class will be held both
indoors and outside, so dress accordingly. Appropriate
for students in 5th–12th grades.
